Common questions

Do I need an account?
No. CalTrak has no accounts and no sign-in. Your CalTrak app data is stored locally on your iPhone.

Where is my data stored?
Locally on your iPhone, using Apple’s SwiftData. CalTrak does not sync your app data to iCloud or to any server. We never see it.

I scanned a barcode and the calories look wrong.
Some barcodes have inaccurate community-submitted nutrition data in the public databases. Tap the entry to edit the values — your correction is remembered for next time.

How do I move my data to a new iPhone?
Use the History tab’s Export feature to create a JSON backup, then Import it on the new install. Your CalTrak data does not auto-sync between devices.

Can I change the bundled food databases?
CalTrak uses Open Food Facts (barcodes), FatSecret/USDA (text search), and Google Gemini (AI lookup, including photo-based lookup). The choice is automatic — we use whichever has the most accurate data for your query.

Does CalTrak work without internet?
Yes — for logging foods you’ve already used and viewing your history. Barcode scans, search, and AI lookups need internet because they query external databases.

How do I delete my data?
Delete the app — your CalTrak app data is removed from the device. Health data already written to Apple Health is managed in the Health app (Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → CalTrak). Delete any exported JSON backups separately wherever you saved them.

Privacy

See our privacy policy for details. Short answer: barcode, search, and AI lookups require internet and pass through CalTrak’s proxy — requests are not stored or retained. AI lookup may also send a user-selected image when you choose photo-based lookup.
