Price
Yes, completely. There's no premium tier, no trial, no subscription and no ads. The only purchase is an optional one-time tip in Settings, and it doesn't change anything in the app.
There are no plans for paid features. I pay to run it, and optional tips help cover the cost.
No. No ads and no advertising SDKs.
Privacy and accounts
No. There's no sign-up or sign-in. Install it and start logging.
On your phone. Your food log, goals, measurements and settings stay in the app's database on your device. Search, barcode lookups, AI and meal sharing only send what that feature needs. The privacy page has the details.
No. CalTrak doesn't sell data or use it for advertising.
Delete the app and its data goes with it. Anything already written to Apple Health or Health Connect is managed in those apps. If you want feedback or a shared meal you sent removed, email support@caltrak.app.
Logging food
Scan a barcode, search, type what you ate, take a photo of your plate, menu or label, paste a recipe link, or use a custom food or saved meal.
Barcodes come from Open Food Facts. Search uses FatSecret and USDA FoodData Central. AI lookups use OpenAI or Google Gemini to estimate nutrition from what you type or photograph.
Some products have bad data in the public databases. Tap the entry and fix the numbers. CalTrak remembers your fix for next time.
It's an estimate. Nutrition labels come out the most accurate. For plates, a clear photo plus a quick note about the portion or how it was cooked helps a lot. You see every number before you save.
Yes. Search includes lots of restaurant items, and you can photograph a menu or describe the dish for an AI estimate. You can also share a restaurant's nutrition PDF to CalTrak and it finds what you ate. See restaurant nutrition PDFs.
Yes. Paste the recipe link and CalTrak works out the nutrition per serving from the ingredients.
Yes, for foods you've logged before, saved meals and your history. Search, barcode and AI lookups need internet.
Goals and progress
The goal wizard uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation with your age, sex, height and weight, multiplies it by your activity level, then adds a deficit or surplus for your goal. It won't go below 1,200 calories a day for women or 1,500 for men.
Yes. The wizard suggests protein, carbs and fat, and you can change any of them.
You earn one every 14 days you log. If you miss a single day, it gets used automatically and your streak keeps going.
Apple Health, Android and devices
Yes. With your permission it reads active and resting energy and your Apple Watch workouts from Apple Health, adds extra activity to your daily budget, and writes your food, weight and body measurements back.
Yes. It's on Google Play with the same features, and it uses Health Connect for health data.
Not automatically. Export a backup on one device and import it on the other. That works between iPhone and Android too.
Export a backup file in CalTrak, move it to the new phone and import it there. Same format on iPhone and Android.
Yes. Turn on Hydration Tracking in the Profile tab to set a goal in fl oz, cups or ml. Coffee and other drinks count by their water value. See water tracking.
Yes. There are 6 home screen widgets for calories left, macros and water, plus Control Center controls and Siri shortcuts. See widgets and shortcuts.
Help
Email support@caltrak.app or send feedback from the Profile tab in the app.
No. The numbers are estimates to help you track. Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before a big diet change, especially if you're pregnant, have a medical condition or have a history of disordered eating.
