What you eat and what you weigh is personal. CalTrak keeps that on your phone instead of in an account on someone else's server.
This page is the readable version. The privacy policy has every detail.
What stays on your phone
- Your food log and meal history
- Your calorie and macro goals
- Weight and body measurements
- Custom foods, saved meals and settings
All of this lives in the app's database on your device. It doesn't sync to a CalTrak account because there's no such thing as a CalTrak account. If you want a copy, export a backup file and keep it wherever you like.
No account, email or password
You don't sign up. There's no email address to hand over, no password that can leak, and no profile with your name on it sitting on a server. You install it and start logging.
What gets sent when you use online features
Some features need the internet. Each one only sends what it needs, and only when you use it.
| Feature | What's sent | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Food search | What you searched for | CalTrak's server, then FatSecret or USDA |
| Barcode scan | The barcode number | CalTrak's server, then Open Food Facts |
| AI text or photo lookup | The description, photo or PDF you pick | CalTrak's server, then OpenAI or Google Gemini |
| Recipe import | The recipe link | CalTrak's server loads the page |
| Meal sharing | The meal you share | Kept on CalTrak's server for 30 days so the link works |
| Feedback | Your message and contact info if you add it | Kept for 30 days so I can reply |
CalTrak's server sits in the middle so the app doesn't have to carry the providers' API keys. Lookup results get cached in memory for an hour at most and aren't saved to a database. None of these features upload your food log.
What CalTrak doesn't do
- Show ads or use your data for advertising
- Sell data
- Track you across other apps or use an advertising ID
- Include third-party analytics or crash reporting SDKs in the iPhone app
- Upload your Apple Health or Health Connect data
The one thing that gets counted
I do want to know roughly how many people use the online features each day. So the app sends a random installation number with online requests. It isn't your name, your phone's hardware ID or an advertising ID. The server scrambles it with a new key every day, so one day's count can't be linked to the next, and it's never passed on to the food or AI providers. Approximate location is only used for country and state totals.
Apple Health and Health Connect
Health sync is optional and needs your permission. CalTrak reads your activity and workouts to adjust your daily budget, and if you allow it, writes your food, weight and measurements back. You can turn it off any time in Apple Health or in Android's Health Connect settings.
Leaving is easy
Export your whole history to a JSON file whenever you want. Deleting the app deletes its data. Anything already in Apple Health or Health Connect stays there, under your control.
