Calorie tracking on Android

By Ryan Bulcher, CalTrak developerUpdated

CalTrak is on Google Play with the same features as the iPhone app. It's free, there's no account, and there are no ads.

What you get on Android

  • Barcode scanning with Google's ML Kit scanner, which reads the barcode on your phone
  • Food search across generic foods, brands and restaurants
  • AI text and photo logging for plates, menus and nutrition labels
  • Recipe import, custom foods and saved meals
  • The same goal wizard, charts, weight trends, streaks and reminders as the iPhone app
  • Meal sharing that works between Android and iPhone

Health Connect

Health Connect is where Android keeps your health data. With your permission, CalTrak reads your activity energy and workouts from it to adjust your daily budget. It uses the same Calorie Burn Bonus as the iPhone app, which only adds activity above your normal maintenance burn. It can also write your food, weight and body fat entries. You can change access any time in Android's Health Connect settings.

Widgets and shortcuts

CalTrak's home screen widgets show your calorie budget, macros and water, and there's one for quick-adding food without opening the app. Long-press the app icon for shortcuts. The widgets and shortcuts page lists all six widgets and their sizes.

Switching between iPhone and Android

The backup file works on both. Export a backup on your old phone, move the file over and import it on the new one. Your whole history comes with it.

Privacy on Android

Your food log stays on your phone. Like most Android apps, CalTrak uses a couple of Google components (Maps for workout routes and ML Kit for barcodes), and those can send technical diagnostics to Google. They're listed in the privacy policy, and the privacy page covers everything else.
