CalTrak is free. Not free for a week, not free until you try to scan a barcode. Every feature is included, with no ads, no subscription and no account.
There's no paid version of CalTrak. The only thing you can buy is an optional one-time tip in Settings, and it doesn't change anything in the app.
What's included
All of it. Here are the features other calorie apps tend to charge for, and they're all free in CalTrak:
- Barcode scanning, as much as you want
- AI photo logging for plates, menus and nutrition labels, plus AI text logging
- Custom calorie and macro goals
- Recipe import from a link
- Unlimited custom foods and saved meals
- Day, week, month and quarter charts, weight trends and body measurements
- Apple Health and Health Connect sync
- Full export and import of your data
- Themes, alternate icons and widgets
The full list is on the features page.
No ads
CalTrak doesn't show ads, and there are no advertising, cross-app tracking or third-party analytics SDKs in it. What you eat isn't something I'm trying to sell to anyone. The privacy page explains what stays on your phone.
Why is it free?
I wanted to get healthier and track my calories, and every big app made me sign up, collected my data and put the useful stuff behind a paywall. I just wanted to open an app and log food. So I built my own, and anyone's welcome to use it.
It does cost money to run. Servers, AI lookups and App Store fees all come out of my pocket, plus whatever people choose to tip. There are no plans to add paid features.
How tips work
Settings has a small tip jar with a few one-time amounts. Apple or Google handles the payment, so I never see your card details, and tipping doesn't change anything in the app. It's just a thank you.
